Teach Children and Teach Yourself

Teaching children is a great part of God’s plan to the people of Deuteronomy 6:1-14. They were to speak of the Lord at home in all circumstances….getting up, lying down to sleep, as they walked in the way and so on. The Lord asked the parents to speak of Him often so the young people would not forget God. Following God involves teaching self as well as we read in Psalms 119:105 to 130. The Word of God is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. We are so blessed with light and understanding if we listen and practice what He speaks. It is so good to avoid wicked ways of life (Psalms 73:16-19) because these ways are slippery places and one could slip quickly into hurt and forever be separated from God. Psalm 74 encourages all readers to never for get God. Are you teaching others, particularly children, around and are you teaching yourself by following God’s Word. David in that earlier generation noted ‘I have been young and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed (descendants) begging bread’ (Psalms 37:25). These principles of the Old Testament were repeated by the Lord in His sermon on the mount (Matthew 5) and asked ‘what do ye more than others’ as he spoke of the showing of our love for others whom we don’t know well, but see them in need and serve them anyway! Such is the pattern of life for Paul, Peter, James and Jude (Romans 8:28-32; I Peter 3:15; James 2:14-26; and Jude 1:3). Teach Children and Yourself, too.
