Service is important to God as Jesus came to serve not himself but his Father’s will (John 3:16-17). Paul served the law which reminded him of death, yet he served the Law (Romans 7:25). What a change he made when knowing the Will of God in Christ (Galatians 2:20) for Paul. Jesus served even at the scene of death (John 11:13-25; 35 and 37). He was heartbroken to face the death of Lazarus whom he later raised from the dead, but showed us true service as to the power he had. Though we do not have such in our hands, what can we do for others in their hours of need? Can we not comfort them with presence, prayers and the peace of God.
The How of service is described in Romans 12:1-4 as Paul writes by the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:9-12) ‘Beloved; I beseech you by the mercies of God (Romans 11:17following) present your bodies as a living sacrifice (Galatians 2:20) which is holy and acceptable to God….we are to present not a ‘dead’ sacrifice, rather a living sacrifice of each member of our body. Let us not do our will in the use of these members of the body but rather the Father’s will for our lives. Jesus noted ‘do not exalt yourself or you will be abased; rather humble yourselves and ye shall be exalted’ (Matthew ) Our faith is to be mixed with love (1 Corinthians 13) or even if our speech could remove mountains, this would not profit us with God. Service mixed with love or it is not profitable for us at all. How to serve; with humility and love.
When Jesus served us; how much did he serve? Did Jesus fail to give us ALL that he could ? Did he fail to teach of the Father’s Words and Will (John 12:49) which will judge us? Did he not tell us of his complete service of the Father’s will ? (John 17:4) Did he not tell us of worship to be done in spirit and in truth (John 4:14) as well as reveal to the Corinthians (chapter 11:20 following) the foolishness of the Lord’s Supper being turned into their OWN SUPPER ? They repented full (2 Corinthians 7) and came back to the True Worship of the local church as well as repented of all other failings which are listed back in 1st Corinthians. Further, did Jesus fail to teach us of our potential future (John 14:1-6) noting his departure would not prevent his future return and that He is the way, truth and the life (Jn 14:6) for us to go with him to the Mansion prepared over there? His service to us and for us is reminded to us in song ‘He is my everything, He is my All’….let’s rejoice in his service for us and pledge our faithful , growing service to him, please. What do you think of His service in these areas of life ?
God serves us well in 1) The Bible of HIS WORD teaches us (Psalms 119:105, verse 130 too). It gives us a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path; and, the entrance of THY word gives light. 2) God helped us via his son (John 3:16 and John 14:23). He desires to live in our lives from day to day. His companionship provides security service for us. 3) God helps us as we serve others in practicing pure religion (James 1:26-27) to ‘care’ for the fatherless and widows and keep oneself unspotted from the world. What a blessing to live in this lifestyle and be a blessing for others in need to a ‘visit’ …a care extended to the fatherless and widows. 4) The promise of Jesus to go and prepare a place for us is comforting (John 14:1-3) In fact his presence is promised ‘in such an hour as ye think not (Matthew 25:34 following). He taught ‘Be ready’ for you do not know the day nor the hour when your Lord doth come. We are comforted by this truth of his coming and his having prepared for us to eternally be with him.
