Serving God

SERVING GOD

The Scripture notes ‘Grace Teaches Us’  (Titus 2:11-12) to deny worldly lust and ungodliness and to live soberly, righteously and godly in this present world. If this is not serving God faithfully, would you write to me the verses of the Bible which do? Serving God faithfully seems to be the focus of Hebrews 5:8-9 wherein it is noted ‘Jesus is author of eternal salvation to all those who obey him’. Do we really have to obey the Lord ? If not, what verses do you read which teach the opposite of this passage? Write them to me on the remarks section of this website. Do you know that faith itself is a work ? Reading John 6:29, the statement is made. This being the case and knowing that works of the devil do not save (John 8:41-45) and that works of the Old Law of Moses do not save us (Galatians 5:4) and the works of personal glory and personal righteousness do not save (Titus 3:5), aren’t we compelled to ask ‘what kind of work is faith ? The answer is given in the verse which affirms a fourth type of work in the Bible–the work of God. If faith is a work of God which one must do in order to be saved, are there other works of God which we must obey?  What about repentance (Acts 11:15-18) ? What about confession (Romans 10:10-12)? What about baptism ( 1 Peter 3:21) ?  If  these verses offer ‘life’ and ‘salvation’,(and they do as stated in the verses)  are they also the works of God which we must do as well as faith ?  If we delete one or more of these acts of obedience, must we not with the same reasoning delete faith also? If not, why not ? Why not serve God with all the acts ?  Can we reason together ? We invite you to write us this week. Thank you for the research.
